A Coventry secondary school had to be evacuated following a 'bomb threat.' Pupils faced disruption at Meadow Park School in Whitley.

Students were told that they must go home at around 8.30am this morning (Monday, June 10). Police rushed to the scene on Abbey Road following a bomb scare, which was sent via email, according to West Midlands Police.

Searches were carried out on the grounds throughout the morning (June 10). Nothing suspicious was found, said West Midlands Police.

Pupils in Year 11 were told that they would be unable to sit their GCSE exams on-site and were instead transferred to Finham Park School. Meadow Park School will reopen as normal tomorrow (Tuesday, June 11).

Parents said the unexplained shutdown had left them feeling 'worried.' One concerned mum told CoventryLive that she had not been told the reason behind the evacuation or given an update as to what had happened.

A spokesman for West Midlands Police said: “We were called after a bomb threat was received by Meadow Park School via an email. A search was carried out and nothing suspicious was found.”

In a statement, Meadow Park School said: “Following a threat received before the start of the school day, we informed police and contacted parents to say we needed to close the school, the safety of our students is our number one priority and our established contingency plan was activated to minimise disruption to pupils and the wider school community. We expect the school to reopen as normal tomorrow (June 11).”

Shouldn't a threat first be 'credible' before it's acted upon?
