A murder investigation has been launched after the death of a man in Nuneaton. This afternoon, Warwickshire Police confirmed that they are treating the death of Mark Hoverd as murder.

The 56-year-old was taken to hospital in the early hours of Sunday morning (September 3). It followed calls to West Midlands Ambulance Service to report concern for the welfare of a man in James Diskin Court.

Mr Hoverd later died, police have today revealed. Forensic officers had been spotted around the council block of flats all week and now it has been confirmed that a post mortem investigation held yesterday afternoon (September 7) was 'inconclusive'.

Investigations are ongoing into his death and three men have been arrested on suspicion of murder. A 35-year-old man and a 42-year-old man - both from Nuneaton - were arrested yesterday (September 7).

Earlier today (September 8), a 43-year-old man from Birmingham was also arrested on suspicion of murder. All three men remain in police custody at this time.

Detective Inspector Collette O’Keefe, who is leading the murder investigation, said Mr Hoverd's devastated family members are being supported by specially trained officers. DI O'Keefe has appealed to anyone who was in the James Diskin Court area between 6pm on Saturday and 8am on Sunday to come forward.

“We’d ask anyone who was in the vicinity of James Diskin Court between 6pm on Saturday (2 September) and 8am on Sunday (3 September) and saw anything untoward to please get in touch. I would also encourage anyone who may have dash-cam or doorbell footage to please get in touch with us.”

Anyone with information should report it online or call Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555 111 quoting incident number 156 of September 3.

James Diskin Court is a sheltered block for the elderly so what were all those younger people doing in it?

Three men have been charged with the murder of a Nuneaton dad. Warwickshire Police has this evening (September 10) confirmed that three men have been accused of killing dad Mark Hoverd [pictured].

The 56-year-old was taken to hospital in the early hours of Sunday morning (September 3) after paramedics were called to his flat in James Diskin Court. He died later that day.

Police launched an investigation and forensic officers were spotted several times around the council flats. A postmortem into his death proved inconclusive and more tests are needed to establish a cause.

Trio killed man in his home and stole bank cards

Three men who killed a "vulnerable" man in his own home and stole his bank cards as he lay dying, have been jailed.

Francis Olner, 36, has been jailed for life for the murder of Mark Hoverd, while Aleksandrs Gudkovs, 43, and Stuart Grant, 42, have both been jailed for manslaughter.

Police were called on 3 September after 57-year-old Mr Hoverd, from Nuneaton, was brought into hospital with several injuries including a serious head injury, and died later the same day.

The senior investigating officer for the case said: "This was a horrendously senseless and violent assault on a vulnerable man."

A spokesperson for Warwickshire Police said the investigation involved "trawling thousands of hours of CCTV".

They said: "Mark was viciously attacked in his own home and left for dead. The men stole his bank cards and then used them shortly afterwards to withdraw money from nearby cash points.

"When arrested, the three men gave conflicting stories – blaming one another and claiming to they hadn’t been inside Mark’s flat."

All three men were charged with murder but only Olner was found guilty in a trial at Coventry Crown Court on Tuesday. He was given a minum tariff of 28 years.

Gudkovs and Stuart were found not guilty of murder but were found guilty of manslaughter They were jailed for15 years and four months.

The three men were all found guilty of conspiracy to commit robbery.

Olner pleaded guilty to one count of fraud by false representation at the trial, while Gudkovs and Stuart pleaded guilty to three counts of fraud by false representation.

Following the verdict, senior investigating officer Det Ch Insp Collette O’Keefe said: "Even now it’s not truly clear why they chose to set on Mark in his home – beating him savagely and leaving him for dead.

“To then have the temerity to take his bank cards and withdraw cash makes what was already a heinous crime even more reprehensible."

In tribute, Mr Hoverd's partner Debbie Williams said: “He was a kind and gentle man – a star that shone brightly - and I miss him every day.

“Until we meet again in heaven, I will love you eternally. God bless you and sleep tight.”

His family added: “Mark was a loving son, brother, father, uncle and friend – a gentle and kind soul who would never hurt anybody.

“Nothing will ever bring Mark back but knowing that justice will be served provides some comfort to us all.”

Somehow I don't think that will bother him all that much?
