UK Euromillions ticket wins £113m [Poll]

Postby dutchman » Sat Oct 09, 2010 1:05 am

A ticket bought in the UK has won a record £113m (129m euros) in the Euromillions lottery draw, according to UK operator Camelot.

Camelot said the win is the biggest lottery prize ever won by one ticket in the UK, but it is not known yet if the winner is an individual or a syndicate.

It was "looking forward to welcoming the lucky ticket-holder to the National Lottery millionaires' club".

Earlier a technical problem had affected online ticket sales in the UK.

Connection problems between Camelot's system and some banks meant sales could not go through between 1845 and 1915 BST, a Camelot spokeswoman said.

The spokeswoman said Camelot did not know how many people had been affected by the glitch and added the matter had been "completely out of our hands".

Sales for Saturday's Lotto draws continue until Saturday evening.

The previous record lottery win in the UK was £84.4m, which was won on Euromillions in May of this year.

That surpassed the £56m won on Euromillions by Nigel Page and Justine Laycock, from Gloucestershire, three months earlier.

The Euromillions numbers were 9, 30, 35, 39, 46, with lucky stars 6 and 8.

Tickets for Euromillions are sold in nine countries - the UK, France, Spain, Austria, Belgium, Luxembourg, the Irish Republic, Portugal and Switzerland.

Camelot is the operator for the competition in the UK.

That's an obscene amount of money to win. I think it should be capped instead of rolling it over every week.

Good luck to whoever won it.

Totally agree Polly. It is an obscene amount especially when so many people are facing cutbacks in their standard of living and in many cases eviction. It also comes at a time when the government is constantly lecturing us that no-one should expect to receive any money at all unless they work for it.

A million pounds is more than enough for any one person in my opinion.

I'd cap the jackpot and increase the smaller prizes. I think more people would do the lotto if you won more for getting 3,4 or 5 numbers.
The Coventry Telegraph is the best Newspaper in the world. Honest.

I stopped doing the Lottery when I looked closely at what they considered "good" causes. They turned down the RNLI at one stage.

I think that lotteries bring out the worst traits of greed in people. Cap it at 1 mill is my vote.
Of course it'll fit; you just need a bigger hammer.

£1M would be a very nice amount to win - could set yourself up for life - the winner hasn't come forward as yet :?

Camelot will confirm [on Friday] whether Coventry was the location where the UK's biggest ever lottery winning ticket was bought in an attempt to find the winner.
