West Midlands Police said at about 23:00 BST on Tuesday, two groups of people were involved in an altercation on Westminster Road in Coventry.

Two men from one group walked off onto Grosvenor Road with their dog before, the force believes, they were deliberately hit by a silver Ford Mondeo.

Both men, aged 30, were taken to hospital, it added.

One man's condition is described as critical.

West Midlands Police said the dog also received serious injuries and died.

The force said it has spoken to witnesses, conducted house-to-house inquiries and is reviewing CCTV but urged anyone with information to come forward.

Murder investigation launched after Coventry hit and run victim dies

Image

A murder investigation has been launched after a man hit by a car in Coventry has now died. Andrew Flamson, 30, was walking with a friend when they were both struck by the car on Grosvenor Road on Tuesday night (July 12).

Police believe the men were deliberately knocked down by the driver of a silver Ford Mondeo. Mr Flamson, a father of one, suffered fatal head injuries in the incident and was pronounced dead in hospital yesterday afternoon (Friday).

The other man remains in hospital with serious injuries and a dog they were walking had to be put down after it was also hit by the car.

The family of Mr Flamson say he was a 'true geezer' with many friends. His family released a statement paying tribute to Andrew, saying: "Andrew was much-loved by many people. We’ve received messages from all over the country from the party and dance scene. Music was Andrew’s life."

Detective Inspector Ranj Sangha, from West Midlands Police's Homicide Unit, said: "There appears to have been an altercation between two groups in Westminster Road at around 11pm which seemed to act as a catalyst for the collision. I need anyone who witnessed the disorder, saw the collision or the silver Mondeo driving away to get in touch as soon as possible.

"A boy has been left without his dad due to the actions of the driver; we need to trace the offenders and get justice for Andrew’s family. In particular, we are keen to hear from anyone who has CCTV or dash cam footage to get in touch.

Fifth man charged with hit-and-run murder of Andrew Flamson

A fifth person has been charged and has appeared in court over the murder of a man knocked down and killed in Coventry earlier this summer. Father-of-one Andrew Flamson was walking with a friend and family in Grosvenor Road on the night of July 12 when they were struck by a silver Ford Mondeo.

Mr Flamson, 40, and from Coventry, suffered fatal head injuries and was later pronounced dead in hospital. West Midlands Police had already arrested and charged four men in connection with his death.

All four are on remand in prison awaiting trial. A fifth man, Ashley Donald, 23, was charged with the murder of Andrew Flamson and the attempted murder of three people walking with Mr Flamson at the time, including a man who suffered serious head injuries.

Donald was also charged with criminal damage in relation to Mr Flamson’s dog who was killed in the collision. He appeared at Leamington Justice centre yesterday (26 September) and is remanded in custody. The police investigation continues.

Gang 'used car as weapon' to kill Coventry dad as he walked his dog

Image

A gang has been found guilty of killing a father-of-one by driving into him as he walked his dog with family and friends in Coventry. Andrew Flamson was brutally killed in the fatal collision on Grosvenor Road.

Detectives found that the car had been driven the wrong way up the road, through a 'No Entry' sign and past cones and bollards which had blocked entry to the road. It then deliberately hit three unnamed people as well as 40-year-old Flamson.

Mr Flamson, from Coventry, suffered fatal head injuries in the collision on July 12 last year and was pronounced dead in hospital three days later. A post-mortem showed he had died from a traumatic head injury.

A man in his 40s also suffered a traumatic head injury which caused life-changing injuries, while two teenagers suffered less serious injuries. A dog also had to be put down shortly after the collision on Grosvenor Road.

All four victims had been deliberately hit by a Mondeo at around 11pm, shortly after a row with another group of men over a longstanding debt. A number of passers-by called the emergency services but the vehicle, with a shattered windscreen and broken wing mirror, drove away.

Ashley Donald was driving the car, and had other passengers inside, among them his father Samuel Henneberry, and they had with them a number of weapons, including a wooden pole and a baseball bat. Investigators trawled CCTV from nearby and used mobile phone data to piece together their movements that night and later found the Mondeo abandoned in Compass Court.

Officers soon arrested three men but Donald had fled to Ireland. A process to extradite the 24-year-old was started but he returned to the UK in September and handed himself in at Coventry Police Station.

All four men denied the murder of Andrew Flamson and the three counts of attempted murder. Donald, Henneberry, Ayre and Tomlinson also denied a charge of criminal damage involving the death of a dog.

But, Donald, 24, of Carpenter Road, Edgbaston was found guilty of murder on Wednesday, May 31. Samuel Henneberry, 59, and Carl Tomlinson, 52, both of Westminister Road, Coventry, and Callum Ayre, 19, of Meadow Street, Coventry, were convicted of manslaughter at Leamington Justice Centre. A fifth man who was also on trial was found not guilty on all counts, according to West Midlands Police.

Detective Inspector Ranj Sangha, from the Homicide Team, welcomed the convictions and described it as a 'truly awful incident' where a car 'had been used as a weapon'.

Andrew Flamson: Four men jailed for Coventry hit-and-run killing

Image
Ashley Donald, Samuel Henneberry, Callum Ayre and Carl Tomlinson (clockwise, from top left) have all been jailed

Four men have been jailed for killing a father in a hit-and-run crash following a row over a drugs debt.

Andrew Flamson, 40, was struck by a car on Grosvenor Road, Coventry, on 12 July last year and died in hospital from head injuries three days later.

The driver, Ashley Donald, has been jailed for life for murder, with a minimum term of 23 years.

The three others, passengers in the car, were sentenced for manslaughter.

Samuel Henneberry, 62, Carl Tomlinson, 52, and Callum Ayre, 20, all from Coventry, were jailed for 15 years, 13 years and 12 years respectively.

The car was used as a weapon of revenge, police said.

Tension had existed for months between Mr Flamson, a cannabis dealer, and one of the men over a debt of up to £400, the court heard.

The men went out in the car with weapons including a baseball bat and wooden pole, according to prosecutors.

Targeting Mr Flamson, the vehicle was driven the wrong way on the road, with a no-entry sign, cones and bollards all ignored.

The car was then driven towards Mr Flamson, his friend Damien Corbett, two teenagers and a dog.

Mr Corbett suffered life-changing injuries in the incident, including a fractured skull and brain trauma, the court heard.

The two teenagers had less serious injuries while Mr Flamson's dog was dragged under the vehicle and put to sleep two days later.

The accused had all denied murder and three counts of attempted murder.

Driver Donald, 24, from Birmingham, fled to Ireland two days after the fatal crash and extradition proceedings were begun, but he returned to the UK and handed himself in, police said.

As well as murder, he was found guilty of a count of causing grievous bodily harm and two charges of attempting to cause grievous bodily harm. He was acquitted of three counts of attempted murder.

In addition to manslaughter, Ayre, Henneberry and Tomlinson, all from Coventry, were convicted of criminal damage over the dog's death. Henneberry and Tomlinson were further found guilty of wounding with intent to cause grievous bodily harm and assault causing actual bodily harm.

All three were acquitted of murder, three counts of attempted murder, one count of causing grievous bodily harm and two counts of attempting to cause grievous bodily harm with intent.

The four were sentenced at Warwick Crown Court on Friday after a trial last month.

Following those proceedings in June, Mr Flamson was described in a family statement as a "kind, loving and gentle man" who would be "our spirit in the sky".
