Steven Ball has been jailed for three years for the robbery
A Coventry man has been jailed for robbing a blind woman in broad daylight. Steven Ball, 42, followed the woman who is in her 40s and walks with a walking stick, in the city centre before pouncing in White Street on 15 March earlier this year.
He pushed her and grabbed her coat rifling through her pockets to steal just £25. Two passers-by recognised Ball and he was arrested later that day at his home in Adelaide Street by police officers.
Though he initially denied the offence, he was picked out by two witnesses on an identity parade. Ball pleaded guilty on 25 October and was sentenced two days later to three years in prison.
West Midlands Police 's investigating officer PC James Rees said: "This was an absolutely callous and cowardly act which has hugely affected the victim. It has completely dented her confidence, leaving her struggling to sleep.
"She is far more cautious about going outside on her own and has to reply on others around her. I hope she is comforted to know her assailant is behind bars."
