Witness says man 'hit with brick' in Coventry attack

An eyewitness has shared harrowing details of an attack in Coventry last week. A man was rushed to hospital after an assault in Middlemarch Road in Radford shortly before 11am on September 15.

According to the witness, more than 10 bikers were riding along Middlemarch Road in between traffic. The witness recalled hearing a loud 'bang'.

Shortly after, an elderly resident walked out of his home and spoke to the bikers. A brick was then thrown at the resident, the witness said.

He was bleeding from his injury as paramedics tended to him at the scene, according to the witness account. They told CoventryLive: "There were 10 to 15 bikers and quads riding up and down the road. There was a loud bang, it sounded like they hit a car but I'm not entirely sure.

"An old man came out of a house had words with them and then a brick was thrown at the old man. I didn't see who threw the brick.

"It was too chaotic, there were too many vehicles, too many people. There was blood pouring out of the man's head and he was sitting against a wall while the ambulance saw him."

Both police and ambulanced attended the scene. The injured man was treated by paramedics before he was taken to hospital.

West Midlands Police is currently investigating the incident. A spokesperson for West Midlands Ambulance Service previously said: "We were called at 10.59am to reports of an assault on Middlemarch Road in Coventry. One ambulance and a paramedic officer attended the scene.

"Upon arrival we found a man who had sustained potentially serious injuries. He received treatment at the scene before being conveyed to hospital for further assessment."

A spokesperson for West Midlands Police said: "We're investigating after a 52-year-old man suffered minor injuries after being hit with a brick on Middlemarch Road in Coventry at around 10.30am on September 15. If you've got any information that could help our investigation, please call 101, quoting crime number 20/456448/22."
