Armed police descended on a Coventry road on Wednesday morning after there were reports of a man on the roof of a property. Meadow Road in Holbrooks was taped off by the junction with Gospel Oak Road for around four hours after a large number of police officers and ambulance crews arrived.

West Midlands Police have now told CoventryLive the man sat on the roof was believed to have been armed with a knife. An eyewitness says police told families to stay in their homes and negotiations were taking place with the suspect.

West Midlands Police said earlier today: "We were called to reports of a burglary in Meadow Road, Coventry, at around 10am today (10 August). Officers arrived and a suspect - believed to be armed with a knife - is currently on the roof of a property on the street.

"Officers are on the scene and a section of the road has been cordoned off while the man is spoken to."

The incident was then brought to a safe conclusion at around 2pm. A man was seen leaving the property with police.
