Nuneaton MP Marcus Jones has pledged to give "all my energy and attention" to his new role after a Government promotion. The town's MP has been made Minister of State (Minister for Housing) in the Department for Levelling Up, Housing and Communities.

Mr Jones expressed his pride at landing the biggest post in his political career after a 'traumatic' period for the Conservative Party climaxed by Boris Johnson's resignation. The former Leader of Nuneaton and Bedworth Borough Council has held junior ministerial positions in previous governments, but this is his first senior ministerial job.

"I am pleased to be appointed as a Minister of State (Minister for Housing) in the Department for Levelling Up, Housing and Communities," the former Nuneaton Sunday Football League player wrote on his Facebook page.

"The last few days have been traumatic for the Conservative Party, but it is very important that Government continues to be handled competently and that we deliver on the issues facing people at the present time."

"This is an important and challenging brief and I look forward to giving all my energy and attention to this demanding role."
