Police continue to probe Coventry crash that seriously injured pensioner

Police are continuing to investigate the circumstances surrounding a crash in Coventry that left an elderly pedestrian badly injured. The woman, aged in her 80s, remains in hospital with a fractured hip and facial injuries, CoventryLive understands.

The woman was said to have been badly shaken by the collision, which happened at the junction of Cheveral Avenue and Villa Road in Radford shortly before 4pm on Sunday, June 19. The junction was closed for several hours while she was transferred to an ambulance and taken to hospital for further treatment.

West Midlands Police are continuing to investigate and the driver is helping officers with their enquiries. In a brief statement, the force said: "A woman pedestrian in her 80s was taken to hospital with serious injuries. The driver is assisting with enquiries."

Police had also released a short statement shortly after the crash on Sunday. Force Response tweeted: "Dealing with a serious RTC in the Radford area of Coventry. Road closure will be in place at the Cheveral Ave/Villa Rd junction, will update once road open."
