Part of treasured countryside in Bedworth could soon welcome more homes. The Woodlands - where the homes would be built - is an area of the town which thousands of townsfolk battled to preserve.

The Woodlands Action Group was set up to campaign for the land to be returned to the green belt but this failed. Controversially, several years ago, Nuneaton and Bedworth Borough Council agreed that part of it could form part of the Borough Plan, a blueprint for all future development land across the two towns.

Now a planning application has been submitted to Nuneaton and Bedworth Borough Council for a section of land in the Woodlands area. It is for a section of land, known as site 93C004 Woodlands Lane.

At the time of publication, documents explaining the plans were not available on the council's website. But the site did state that planning permission is being sought for the demolition of existing buildings and erection of 29 one two three and four bedroom dwellings and one apartment block.

As part of the planning application process people can have their say about the application. Details can be found on the council's website, under the planning application section. The reference number is 038664.

The decision date for the application has been set as May 6.
