The man was attacked along Stoney Stanton Road in Coventry at around 5.35am on Wednesday, February 16.

Police were called to the scene just before 6am.

He received emergency treatment at the scene where an ambulance, a paramedic and a critical car care attended.

The man was transported to hospital and remains in critical condition.

A police cordon remains in place outside the Coventry walk-in centre.

A number of locals watched on as emergency services descended on the scene this morning.

Hannah Bilal, 32, lives next to Eagle Street park.

She said: “It was about 5.20am and I heard a man screaming. He was like, ‘help me’.

“My room is right by where it was. I couldn’t see it but I could hear him. He sounded in agony.

“I thought I can’t ring an ambulance as I didn’t know exactly where he was, so I rang the police and they came with dogs and stuff.

“It freaked me out. It’s really bad to happen in a park where kids play.”

A cordon remains in place and anyone with information can contact police via Live Chat on our website or by calling 101. Quote log 435 of 16/02/22.

A spokesperson said: "A 20-year-old man walked into a clinic on Stoney Stanton Road with a stab wound yesterday.

Third stabbing in less than two weeks in same Coventry neighbourhood as locals fear gang wars

Image

Police have confirmed they are investigating after a man was stabbed in a city park on Friday (25 February) around the corner from where two stabbings occurred last week.

The latest incident happened in a park off Eagle Street in Foleshill, police say. A cordon was set up and was still in place over 12 hours later.

A man aged 36 was hospitalised with injuries said not to be life-threatening.

Officers are now investigating the incident and have appealed for witnesses to come forward if they have information.

A West Midlands Police spokesman said: "We’re investigating a stabbing in in a park off Eagle Street, Coventry, at 8pm yesterday (25 February).

"A 36-year-old man was taken to hospital. Thankfully his injuries were not life-threatening.

"We would urge anyone who has information that could help our enquiries to please get in touch via Live Chat at west-midlands.police.uk, quoting crime number 20/716275/21."

West Midlands Ambulance Service has been approached for a comment.

Residents say the area has become a haven for gangs and drug dealers recently, and admit is making the area "frightening" to live in.

One Eagle Street resident told CoventryLive: “I had just put the kids to bed when I heard and saw the sirens around 7.30pm.

“I’ve lived here eight years and it’s always been fine, lovely neighbours and stuff, but lately we’ve had these stabbings, the two round the corner last week, and now this, shocking.

“I’m sure it is all drug and gang-related. You see them around here dealing all the time. It’s frightening.”

A second added: "Someone has been stabbed in the park and it is still cordoned off. Drugs and gang wars.

"The police need to listen more to the calls they get about dealers and gangs. It's getting worse each day.

"I'm worried for the next generation."

Police find discarded weapons after series of knife attacks in Foleshill

Image

Police have been conducting weapons sweeps in the Foleshill area of Coventry after three recent knife attacks.

Officers from the neighbourhood policing team have increased patrols in the area after two people were stabbed and one attacked with a knife last month.

They have now found a crowbar as well as a knife earlier this week after a sweep for discarded weapons.

Foleshill Police tweeted: "Following a weapons sweep officers have found some items."

Police have also been conducting patrols in Edgwick Park which has been an area of concern for many residents for several years.

Locals have been left fearing for their safety after three stabbings which left their victims hospitalised.

Last month, two people were stabbed in separate incidents near the walk-in centre on Stoney Stanton Road, and another victim was subjected to a knife attack on nearby Eagle Street.

Residents have speculated that the recent violence is associated with gangs and drug dealing, which they believe has plagued the area for several years.

One resident says he has 'begged' the police to be proactive in tackling the issue, but claims his pleas 'have fallen on deaf ears' accusing the police of 'neglecting' the area.

Sarfraz Khan told CoventryLive : "I am a resident here and for the last ten years the area has become a hotspot for drug dealing and antisocial behaviour.

"Over the years I have begged the police to do something about it but nothing really has been done.

"Outside my house, every hour, on average 20-30 people, many in cars, come to buy and sell drugs. Sometimes they wake us in the middle of the night arguing and fighting.

"I know Coventry really well but I can assure you there is no place like this. It has been neglected by the police for years. I phone them every couple of months to no avail.

"I've begged them to install CCTV, covert or overt, but my requests have fallen on deaf ears."

Girl robbed of phone by men who held knife to her throat in Foleshill

Image

A mum has spoken of a harrowing robbery that has left her 13-year-old daughter "distraught" after two thugs held a knife to her throat to steal her possessions.

The incident happened on Saturday on Leicester Causeway in Foleshill, the same area near the city centre where there has been a spate of knife-related crimes in recent weeks. It happened as the girl was walking home after seeing friends.

Her mum Rachel Jeavons told CoventryLive: "She was walking back home talking to her friends on her phone. She said she was being followed so kept walking as fast as she could. She was scared and not thinking so cut down the alleyway from Church Street to Leicester Causeway by the Gurdwara to try to get away.

"She was grabbed from behind by one who put a knife to her throat. The other also had a knife and they asked her for her phone so she gave them it and her bag which had nothing in.

"They let her go and ran off - the man who lives by the entry found her and the police came. I came and saw her sitting there so distraught - she got more upset when the police said they may not be able to do anything."

The area has become a frightening one in recent months due to issues with gangs and knife crime. There were three separate knife attacks in the space of ten days last month - two just days apart near the Walk-in Centre on Stoney Stanton Road and a third on Eagle Street a week later.

Leicester Causeway, where this incident happened, feeds into Eagle Street where the most recent stabbing was. Rachel says the gangs are "causing chaos" and leaving her "scared to go to the shop".

She said: "Round by where I live is getting really scary with stabbings and muggings - it makes me scared to go out to the shop and I Uber things to my house if it's dark. They are taking over Eagle Street park and causing chaos. There's been rumours of them giving free drugs out to kids as well."
