Residents are calling for the council to act after three cars were written off in Coventry following a collision - the latest in a series of incidents to impact a city street.

The Mount is a residential street in Cheylesmore which has become something of a rat run for motorists using the road and going at high speeds.

Cllr Roger Bailey says the latest incident, which happened Thursday evening (October 14) is one of several which has occurred on the street since the initial Covid-19 lockdown began, and he has urged the council to act.

He says the street is one of several in the area facing such issues.

He said: "I have been made aware of the accident and have been sent photos which have been passed to Coventry City Council officers.

"There is currently a petition in the system asking for measures on the road and it's also on the speedwatch list.

"Sadly it is one of a number of roads that has seen an increase in speed and accidents since the first lockdown, including Daventry Road, William Bristow Road, Black Prince Avenue, Quinton Road and others, including outside schools."

A resident who lives on the road says his car was written off in the incident on Thursday, after it was hit while it was parked outside his house. The impact shunted his car six metres forward.

He says if cars weren't parked outside his home the motorists would have "ended up in my living room". The residents says something needs to be done "before someone gets killed".

Despite the seriousness of this latest incident, West Midlands Ambulance Service say they were not called to the scene, which would indicate there were no serious injuries.

CoventryLive has approached West Midlands Police for more information.

We've also approached Coventry City Council.
