Firefighters were called out to two blazes at Coventry’s David Lloyd club in what are believed to have been a brace of arson attacks.

Both fires happened at the Abbey Road health club in the early hours of Friday morning (September 24).

On the first occasion a door had been set alight and some bushes nearby and on the second one a different door.

Firefighters from two Coventry fire stations - Binley and Foleshill - attended the blazes, the first call-out was at around 3.30am and the second at around 5.45am.

A spokesman for Binley fire station said: “There were a couple of fires at the David Lloyd leisure centre early on Friday.

“They were small fires to doors but it appears someone had set fire to them.

“We were called out at around 3.30am and were the second appliance there.

“A door had been set fire to - and bushes - and then again at around 5.45am.

“The same place but a different door and a different location.

“The second one was already out when we arrived - we just put a little bit of water on the door.”
