Britain's poshest train will be setting off for a Royal day out from Coventry train station next weekend.

But it will be an extra special trip for one lucky passenger who will spend the entire journey sipping champagne while relaxing in what was once the late Queen Mother’s favourite seat.

For one of the Northern Belle’s luxurious 1930s-style Pullman carriages used to form part of the Royal Train.

And the Queen Mum, who died aged 101 in 2002, always liked to sit in the same seat during her journeys on board.

Northern Belle staff, though, don’t advertise which was Her Majesty’s favourite seat.

A spokesman explained: “If we did, everybody would want to sit there. But sometimes one of our onboard staff will whisper the secret in the lucky passenger’s ear.

“Then if they want they can sip a gin and tonic like the Queen Mum and wave regally out of the window!

“But, in reality, all our carriages and seats are equally luxurious so we like to think everybody travelling on the Northern Belle ends up feeling like royalty.”

Indeed all passengers will board the train over a red carpet when it pulls into Coventry station at 9am on Saturday (August 21).

Then they will tuck into a three-course brunch during the journey to Windsor Eton Riverside station.

Instead of visiting the castle, passengers will also be able to tour fascinating Kew Gardens during the day.

Afterwards there will be another champagne reception on board before a slap-up five-course dinner with wine is served during the journey home, scheduled to arrive back in Coventry at 8.30pm.

The Northern Belle will return to Coventry on September 26 for a “Great British Sunday Lunch” trip to North Wales and then again on October 7 for a special journey over the spectacular Settle-Carlisle line hauled by historic steam locomotive Princess Elizabeth. There will also be a slap-up “Christmas Lunch” special on December 10.

Fares start at £210. For more details see northernbelle.co.uk or phone 01270 899681.
