A man has been jailed for 14 weeks after punching an off-duty female police officer in the face.

Liam Bentley, 29, had been drinking at a community centre in Chesterton Drive, Leamington on the evening on April 15 when he started to become aggressive.

He began to start flipping tables in the venue and smashing glasses.

A woman at the community centre identified herself as an off duty police officer at which point Bentley punched her in the face.

Bentley eventually left and started to become racially abusive in the street. He was arrested a short time later at his home.

While in custody, Bentley, of Ford House, Leamington, caused extensive damage to his cell and racially abused two police officers.

Bentley has now been sent to prison for 14 weeks after pleading guilty to assaulting an emergency worker, three counts of causing racially aggravated intentional harassment, alarm or distress, and criminal damage.

It was also found he had breached a suspended prison sentence order from July last year when he was convicted of possession of an offensive weapon.
