Severn Trent have explained the delay
A burst water pipe on one of Coventry’s busiest roads took ten days to repair.
The burst pipe was on Holyhead Road, opposite the Kingdom Hall of Jehovah’s Witnesses, close to the junction with Evenlode Close.
It continued to spew out water at a rapid rate, according to a local resident, despite Severn Trent workmen attending, carrying out works and fencing the area off.
Traffic management measures also needed to be put in place.
One resident who lives close by said that the pipe had been leaking water at a rapid rate for ten days and at one point the site had been left unattended for three days.
After ten days the leak was finally stopped yesterday (Tuesday January 19) and a large hole filled in.
Mike Winters, who lives nearby, said: “This was going on for over a week - ten days in fact - with very little being done to resolve it by Severn Trent.
“In fact from my observations it looks like they made it even worse after digging a big hole.”
Speaking on Tuesday (January 19) he added: “It’s now been left unattended for three days.
“I would estimate it was probably leaking about a bath full every 30 seconds. And I believe it was probably drinking water.”
A spokesman for Coventry City Council said the burst pipe was ultimately a Severn Trent matter and a Severn Trent spokesman told CoventryLive that there were difficulties because the burst pipe was next to a cluster of tree roots.
They said this meant it needed to work under the guidance of a tree surgeon, who had subsequently been provided by the city council.
