Coventry's Refugee and Migrant Centre has announced a funding boost of £1.89 million.

The centre helps integrate refugees and other third country nationals to rebuild their lives in safety, becoming fully self-sufficient and establish themselves within the wider community in Coventry.

This will be achieved by English language education, information, advice and guidance and one-to-one help.

More specifically, people have access to:

  • housing and benefits advice
  • self-development interventions
  • fun activities to help make friends
  • therapy
  • opportunities to visit new places and find out more about their new home
  • access to employment and volunteering
The money has been awarded to the centre in partnership with Volunteer Action Coventry (VAC), Foleshill Women’s Training (FWT), Belgrade Theatre and Coventry City of Culture Trust from the the Asylum, Migration and Integration Fund (AMIF).

The centre successfully ran an AMIF project for two years and has helped 250 people beneficiaries integrate into the community.

Zarah Sultana, Labour MP for Coventry South, said: “Coventry has a proud history as a City of Sanctuary, welcoming people from across the world fleeing violence, persecution and poverty.

"This tradition continues through the excellent work these organisations do to support refugees and migrants in the city. I am delighted that with this funding, that work will continue.”

Seems like an awful lot of money for 'integrating' 125 people a year.
Of course it'll fit; you just need a bigger hammer.
