Ramani Morgan, from Birmingham, died in hospital after he was found collapsed in Clay Lane, Coventry, at about 22:30 GMT on Saturday.

He had been at a "well attended" party in Chandos Street, about 300m (0.2 miles), from where he was found with multiple stab wounds, police said.

Two 17-year-old boys have been arrested on suspicion of murder.

The teenagers, from Coventry, are in police custody.

"It seems what's happened is there has been quite a large house party in Chandos Street, in the Stoke area," Ch Supt Mike O'Hara said.

"That seems to have been very well attended and it seems to have effectively got out of hand."

He said Ramani, who lived in Erdington, had been "stabbed several times" after an altercation at the party spilled out on to the street.

The attack is not believed to be gang-related, police said.

Searches are being carried out at the location of the party and the area where Ramani was found.

Forensic search teams could be seen on Sunday lifting drain covers in Chandos Street and in nearby Clay Lane.

"This is a tragedy, another young man has lost his life," Det Insp Michelle Allen added.

Police are appealing for anyone who was at the party or any witnesses to contact them.

Teenager guilty of murdering Ramani Morgan in Coventry

An 18-year-old has been found guilty of murdering promising young footballer Ramani Morgan following a row at a house party.

Sukhbir Singh Phull had denied killing 16-year-old Ramani, from Erdington, who was found with stab wounds in Clay Lane, Stoke, in February this year.

However, a jury today (September 25) returned a guilty verdict against Phull following an emotional trial at Warwick Crown Court.

Phull, of Binley Road, Coventry, will be sentenced at a later date.

A 17-year-old male, also accused of Ramani's murder, has been found not guilty.

Ramani attended a house party in Chandos Street, along with his girlfriend, on the evening of February 29 and Phull was among those already there when he arrived.

Soon after things turned ugly and the guests were asked to leave, with an argument breaking out involving Ramani and Phull.

The jury at Warwick Crown Court heard that Ramani, who had recently been at the academy at Aston Villa FC, was carrying a knuckle duster that night which he used on Phull, before being stabbed.

One of the stab wounds pierced the youngster's heart.

He was found collapsed in nearby Clay Lane and taken to hospital, but died of his injuries shortly before midnight.

Phull was arrested soon after and answered 'no comment' in police interviews and was eventually charged with murder.

Teenager who stabbed Ramani Morgan in the heart jailed for life

A teenager who murdered 16-year-old Ramani Morgan at a house party in Coventry earlier this year has been jailed for life.

Sukhbir Singh Phull dragged Ramani out of the party and attacked him after he was left "humiliated and angry" when his advances to Ramani's girlfriend were rebuffed.

He pulled a knife out as violence erupted in Chandos Street, in the Stoke area of the city, and stabbed Ramani a number of times.

One of the stab wounds pierced the youngster's heart.

Ramani stumbled in to nearby Clay Lane where he collapsed, before being taken to hospital where he died shortly before midnight on February 29.

Phull, 18, was found guilty of murder following a trial at Warwick Crown Court and was today sentenced to life imprisonment, with a minimum term of 17 years, at the same court.

Jailing Phull, Judge Andrew Lockhart QC said he had launched "a vicious and fully anticipated knife attack" and had shown "not a shred of remorse".

A 17-year-old male, also accused of Ramani's murder, was found not guilty during the same trial as Phull.
