It's a "sustainable location" close to Coventry University, the applicant has said

New student apartments are to be built on the edge of Coventry city centre.

Planning approval has been granted for 60 student apartments on the site of Kebab Rush takeaway on 152 Far Gosford Street.

The takeaway and adjoining outbuildings will be demolished to create two student apartment blocks.

The front block will contain 28 studio apartments across five-storeys, while the rear block will have 32 studio apartments across seven-storeys.

Either a restaurant, cafe, takeaway or shop will house a retail unit on the front-facing ground floor, operating 10am to 4am all week.

In planning statements to Coventry City Council, the applicant said site is a “sustainable location” for new student accommodation due to its proximity to the Coventry University.

They added: “The proposal seeks to create a high-quality design development which replaces the existing low quality architecture on the site. The new development will use modern construction methods and has been designed to harmonise with the existing streetscape with a distinct language of mixed use with retail at ground floor level and student accommodation within the subsequent stories.”

Council planners granted delegated approval last week.

A £94,250 Section 106 agreement was secured to upgrade local green space, likely to be used at Primrose Hill Park or Gosford Green.

How it looks today:

I remember when it was a stonemason's showroom, full of mock graves and headstones.

I expect the two shops to the left of it (formerly the City Garage) will want planning permission for five stories next?
