Leamington Food Festival 2020 cancelled

Organisers struggled to find a way to hold the festival in the current conditions



Leamington's annual food festival has been cancelled this year, the organisers have announced (July 14).

A post on their Facebook page stated they made the decision with "great sadness", as the event is a great platform for local food and drink businesses as well as entertainment thousands of people.

They add that the Covid-19 crisis has been a tough time for small shops and businesses and that time and attention should be directed towards them re-opening.

The festival is set to return next year, on Saturday September 11 and Sunday September 12.

The post read:

"As you know the Leamington Food and Drink Festival has been a staple on the Leamington Spa town centre summer of fun calendar for many years.

"Perhaps one of the best in the area with an eclectic mix of local food producers alongside street food operators, chef demonstrations, live music, kids cookery school and our local Cook of the Year competition.

"Thousands of people flock to the two day event which falls, annually, at the beginning of September. There has always been something to tickle everyone’s taste buds.

"We have tried very hard to find a way in which we could hold our festival this September but it is with great sadness that we announce that our annual celebration of food will not go ahead.

"Our friends, the restaurants and retailers, who are the heart and soul of this event and of Leamington Spa town centre, are also under a lot of pressure right now. Many of whom, having had to close to ride out this storm, are only just starting to re-open their doors and we feel our efforts must be placed in supporting our lovely town centre businesses first and foremost for the time being.

"We will be back though, so please put Saturday 11th and Sunday 12th September 2021 into your diaries.

"In the meantime please check our website http://www.leamingtonfoodfestival.co.uk from time to time as we plan some mini pop up events over the coming months between now and next summer.

"So for now please stay safe and we look forward to seeing you soon."
