A war veteran was mugged as he walked into Nuneaton town centre to buy meat to cook his first homemade meal since the start of lockdown.

The OAP, who has only been named as Jim, had gone into town to buy meat to cook his first meal in months.

But he was mugged as he walked near to Iceland.

The heartless thief stole £140 in cash and also took his cards.

He has been left traumatised as a result of his ordeal.

Sioux Watkins of the Guardians of Stubbs Pool has launched an appeal to not only repalce his stolen money, but to also restore his faith in mankind.

Through the group's 'Well in Isolation' programme, they had been delivering meals to Jim and Sioux knows how much it meant to him to venture out to get his own meal.

"He’s such a lovely guy," she said.

"I have set up the page to restore Jim’s faith in humanity.

"Nobody deserves this, I want to show him there’s still lots of good people in our town.

"If anyone would like to send a card or letter please get in touch."

The theft has been reported to the police and officers are due to go and speak to the elderly victim.

In the meantime, anyone who would like to help donate to the page, can do so here.
