Eight people from a Coventry residential home have been given oxygen treatment at the scene of a fire.
Twelve other residents were checked over after ambulance crews were called to Hall Green Road on Saturday evening.
A passer-by, a woman believed to be in her early 20s, helped five patients to leave the home.
Nobody required hospital treatment. The fire service said it was a small fire on the ground floor and the cause was being investigated.
'Consumed by smoke'
The ambulance service, which was called at about 2135 GMT, said crews found five residents who had left the ground floor of the home.
They were given oxygen treatment.
A further five residents on the ground floor and ten residents on the first floor were checked over at the scene and three of these patients had oxygen treatment.
Specialist equipment was used to check the carbon dioxide levels of every person at the scene to ensure they were not suffering from any level of carbon dioxide poisoning.
The fire was believed to have been contained in a ground floor room and part of the ground floor was consumed by smoke, the ambulance service said.
All residents had returned to the home by about 2330 GMT, it added.
