Mark Deeley, of Cryfield Grange Road, Gibbet Hill, claims he acted in defence of his dog's life when his neighbour's German Shepherd was fatally stabbed.

The 49-year-old formally denies destroying the black German Shepherd without lawful excuse.

Mr Deeley will now face trial at Coventry Magistrates' Court this year.

He was granted unconditional bail and will reappear in court for a pre-trial review on 27 January.
