Concerns have been raised about a 'living room' that has been set-up outside a store in Nuneaton town centre.

A man has been sleeping on a camp bed, with a large set up around it, outside the Iceland store on Queens Road for several weeks.

CoventryLive has received reports of women feeling intimidated walking past and an incident involving the man and a group of young people.

The set-up, which has been described as a 'living room' is near to where the customer trolleys for the store are kept.

CovenrtyLive contacted Iceland and a spokesperson said: "We can confirm that we are aware of reports regarding an individual staying outside the Iceland store in Nuneaton.

"We take concerns raised by members of the community seriously and are currently making enquiries to better understand the circumstances surrounding the situation."

We also contacted Nuneaton and Bedworth Borough Council.

A council spokesperson said: “The council cannot comment on the circumstances of individual residents. However, where anyone is sleeping rough, we will always seek to engage with them and offer appropriate support.

"In this case, support and accommodation options have been made available, and efforts to engage continue. However, support can only be provided where an individual is willing to engage with the services being offered.

"We are also aware of concerns raised regarding behaviour towards members of the public, businesses, and those attempting to provide assistance.

"The council is therefore working with its partners and considering all appropriate options and interventions available to help safeguard the individual, protect the wider community, and encourage engagement with support services.

“We will continue to take a compassionate and proportionate approach, while remaining ready to provide assistance should the individual choose to accept it."

In a statement, Warwickshire Police said: "We are working closely with our partners to address any concerns.

“We would encourage anyone with concerns around safety to report them by calling 101 or visiting http://www.warwickshire.police.uk/ro/report/

“Always call 999 in an emergency.”
