Council bosses have issued a statement to all householders across Coventry awaiting bin collections this week.

An official red heat alert is just hours away from being triggered, meaning that from 9am tomorrow morning (June 24) until 9pm on Thursday, 'significant disruption to daily life is likely'.

With this in mind, the city council has said that bin collections over the coming days will be made earlier.

In a social media post, the council said: "Our bin crews will be starting their rounds earlier at 6am. So we recommend you put your bin out the night before."

The council has warned that the 'incredibly hot' weather poses a number of dangers.

"Make sure to drink lots of water, apply sunscreen regularly and never leave anyone in a closed or parked vehicle, especially infants, young children or animals," it says.

It adds that the council's rough sleeper outreach team will be out all week offering sun cream, water and shelter to rough sleepers across the city.

More information on the help that is available can be found on the council's website here
