Residents say they are 'outraged' after a bright green parcel locker was 'plonked' on a quiet residential cul-de-sac in Coventry. It was recently installed on Arne Road in Walsgrave.

Yeep! operates the delivery locker and claims to run the only fully battery and solar-powered parcel locker network in the UK. On LinkedIn, they say they offer free-standing, off-grid lockers, making it easy for carriers and consumers to pick up and drop off parcels 'at the heart of their communities.'

Councillor Ed Ruane criticised Yeep! for placing such units in peaceful residential areas and called them 'plonkers.' Cllr Patricia Seaman called for its removal and described the installation as an 'eyesore.'

Cllr Ruane said: “It is currently placed on the grassed area with a concrete base. Yeep! really are plonkers if they think dropping these units in quiet residential areas is an acceptable business model.”

Cllr Seaman added: “Residents contacted me outraged and very upset at the random plonking of the click-and-collect facility in their residential community, a quiet cul-de-sac with a residents' parking scheme. It has been described as an eyesore by residents and is in close proximity to homes.”

Coventry City Council confirmed that the installation is currently under investigation to determine whether it complies with local planning regulations. Cllr Seaman said she has been informed that Yeep! must remove the locker and its associated hardstanding within 28 days.

A spokesman for Coventry City Council said: “Nothing further to say at this stage, the matter is under investigation and officers have contacted the landowner and locker company.”
