Hipswell Highway remains closed this morning (April 4)
Police are hunting a hit-and-run driver who crashed into a telegraph pole in Coventry. It happened in Wyken this morning (April 4).
Hipswell Highway remains closed between Longfellow Road and Meredith Road. Eyewitnesses say a SEAT Leon crashed into a utility pole and was later recovered.
Images obtained by CoventryLive show the snapped pole hanging mid-air and connected by wires. Debris was scattered across the ground.
Engineers from BT Openreach were working at the scene around 9.30am. No injuries have been reported.
Hipswell Highway is expected to stay closed until this evening. Drivers are being diverted via Longfellow Road.
Police said the SEAT driver fled, and enquiries to find them are ongoing. Anyone with information is asked to get in touch by calling 101.
A spokesman for West Midlands Police said: “We were called to Hipswell Highway after a car collided with street furniture and the driver made off before we attended. Enquiries are ongoing to trace them.”
National Express said on X: “17 and 17A diverting in both directions via The Drive due to an ongoing incident.”
