Police have launched an investigation after a suspected arson attack at a Coventry pub. Emergency services were called to the Black Prince in Tile Hill just after 7.30am on Wednesday.

Fire crews from across the city managed to get the blaze under control. Four people had escaped the fire, with one taken to hospital as a precaution. CoventryLive understands the pub still opened its doors to customers later in the day.

A spokesman for West Midlands Police said: "An arson investigation has been launched following a fire at a pub in Coventry earlier this week. We were called on 10 September to a fire at the Black Prince in Jardine Crescent.

"Enquiries are ongoing and we are now investigating how the fire started. Anyone who was in the area and saw what happened can contact us via 101 quoting crime number 20/372261/25."

"We were called to a property fire on Jardine Crescent in Tile Hill at 7.42am and sent an ambulance to the scene," a West Midlands Ambulance Service spokesman told CoventryLive the day of the fire. "On arrival, crews found one man who was assessed and treated for suspected smoke inhalation before being conveyed to University Hospital Coventry and Warwickshire."

A spokesman for West Midlands Fire Service previously told CoventryLive: "At 7.40am on Wednesday 10 September, we responded to an incident on Jardine Crescent, Coventry.

"Three fire engines and two brigade response vehicles attended, crewed by firefighters from Foleshill, Coventry, and Canley fire stations.

"This was a fire on the ground floor of a two-storey pub. Four firefighters wearing breathing apparatus worked to extinguish the fire, which was confirmed to be out just after 9.15am.

"Four people escaped the building prior to our arrival. They were treated on scene, before three of them were released. One person was taken to hospital for further precautionary check."
