Sainsbury's has revealed plans for a huge new store in Warwickshire. A proposal for unit 4 at the Technology Retail Park in Rugby has been submitted.

This is the old home of Homebase, which closed in December last year and is now set to become a large Sainsbury's store.

Now, the supermarket giant wants to take over the unit. It has applied to Rugby Borough Council for planning permission.

The plan is to refurbish and then divide the unit into two units. One will be used as a food store along with a new shop front and customer entrance lobby and external layout changes, including a trolley bay, reconfigured mezzanine floorspace, and associated works.

No physical changes to the building or car park are being proposed, However, there will be changes to the internal layout and service yard to account for 'Sainsbury’s operational needs'.

The plan is now pending a decision by the borough council.
