A new drive-thru and charging hub will be built in Coventry. Plans for the food-to-go restaurant and six electric vehicle bays were approved yesterday, 20 November.

Forecourt operator Motor Fuel Group will build the 166 square metre outlet next to its Esso fuel station on the A45 London Road. They will knock down a car wash and replace it with an HGV refuelling site and access road.

Plans say the outlet will create nine jobs. The drive-thru will have indoor and outdoor seating, 15 parking spaces and a new footpath and crossing.

The development will go on empty land once used as parking located south of the Ryton petrol station. As of last year the site was fenced off and home to a substation and some trees and shrubs, Google Maps photos show.

Developers say two trees will need to be removed but claim they will keep as much of the current greenery as possible and put in extra planting. The site will have the same access points for drivers as it does now.

Council planning officers said the scheme would "improve" the Tollbar End site by bringing empty brownfield land back into use and providing a service for the public. They also said the scheme will have "minimal impact" on neighbours including residents on Brandon Lane.

Officers added some conditions but overall agreed the scheme should go ahead. More details can be found on the council planning portal via reference: PL/2024/0001156/FUL.

They should rename it 'Milkbar End' on account of all the milk floats which will be recharging there! :jester:
