A deal has been struck for the first part of a massive 5,000 home development with two new schools in Warwickshire. It is for the sale of land for 210 new homes and a new primary school in Cawston Lane, Rugby.

The 12.94-hectare plot is the first piece of land to be sold within Homestead View, the name of the South West Rugby Sustainable Urban Development Extension. This will see a total of 5,000 homes, two schools and a new district centre.

There will also be 35 hectares of employment land, walking and cycling routes, new transport links and green infrastructure.

It has been sold to Miller Homes on behalf of the landowner and Catesby Estates. Construction is due to start early next year with show homes expected to be open on site by June.

Myron Osborne, chief executive of Catesby Estates, said: "We are delighted that this deal represents the first land sale from our expanded strategic land portfolio since the acquisition of L&Q Estates. Homestead View will create a new community in this part of Rugby, and we are really pleased phase one of this scheme is set to get underway.”

Neil Ballett, Land Director at Miller Homes West Midlands, said: “Miller Homes West Midlands is excited to have successfully acquired the first phase of land at Cawston, Rugby, an area we know well from our successful Poets Meadow scheme just a stone's throw away.

"When the reserved matters consent is secured, it will allow much-needed quality housing to be delivered for the community, building on our strong local presence and commitment to the area."
