Plans have been put forward to improve a “vital” Coventry green space by adding wetland features and ponds.

Warwickshire Wildlife Trust said the plans would improve Lake View Park's habitats and river system, with more storage added to floodplains at the 30-hectare area surrounded by homes on the outskirts of Coundon Wedge.

The project would see 14 features in total added to the park which is owned and managed by the city council.

The proposal is part of the charity’s wider £3m programme to restore the River Sherbourne which is funded by various groups.

The trust describes Lake View Park as a “vital green space connecting the city to the rural outskirts".

In 2019, the charity and council created lowland meadow and ponds at the site.

This work also included engineering works to encourage a “more natural flow” along the River Sherbourne which, the trust said, had been “historically straightened and dredged".
