A duo caught hiding in a 'secret bedroom' in a large-scale near-£170k cannabis house in Bedworth are now behind bars. The grim squalor that Beqir Kola and Avel Dani were found hiding in emerged when police raided a property in Park Road.

They were holed-up in the 'secret room' that had two beds squashed inside with a filthy camping stove, clothing and dirty bowls and cutlery on the floor. The duo were not the only surprise police found as a trapdoor had been installed across the staircase to the first floor, meaning access was only through the first-floor window.

Police found 300 plants, with an estimated street value of £169,530, as well as sophisticated set-up of fans and ventilation units. After being arrested, Kola, aged 22, and Dani, aged 21, were charged with production of cannabis and abstracting electricity.

On September 14, the pair were sentenced to 30 weeks imprisonment.

Sergeant Ryan Price of Nuneaton and Bedworth Safer Neighbourhood Team said that the drugs gangs that are behind the cannabis factories are 'eating away at our communities'. "The gangs that operate these grows use violence to get what they want and intimidation to keep their victims in line," Sgt Walker said.

"They use the proceeds from these farms to perpetuate this violence and intimidation. Taking action is only possible with your help – if you think there’s criminal activity taking place in your community, let us know."
