Local residents angered as graffiti worsens and scrawls deemed an 'eyesore'

Graffiti has plagued the streets of Walsgrave



Residents say they are 'fed-up' as public property continues to be defaced in Coventry. Grafitti has appeared on walls, hoardings and power boxes in Walsgrave.

Tags can be seen on Farber Road, Brade Drive and Manfield Avenue. 'Steve' and 'Fanta' are among the words scrawled with the level of vandalism becoming 'much worse'.

A frustrated resident described the vandalism as an 'eyesore'. Her young children also condemned the huge scrawls which have now been reported to Coventry City Council.

A woman, who wished to remain anonymous, said: “Graffiti in Walsgrave has become noticeably worse in recent weeks. It is an eyesore and demonstrates no artistic talent whatsoever.

“It is blatantly antisocial behaviour and my young children have also noticed it and have been asking why people do it when it looks so unattractive and is such a selfish thing to do.”

A second said: “Just walked down to University Hospital Coventry and along the path from Boswell Drive to UHCW there is graffiti on every possible surface.”

West Midlands Police said: “You can report graffiti to any public areas such as bins, benches, buildings, subways or monuments to Coventry City Council. If the graffiti is racist or offensive the local authority will attempt to remove it within 48 hours. If the incident is happening now please call 999.”

There's your solution. Just spray something 'offensive' over the top and the council will come and remove it!

A spokesman for Coventry City Council told CoventryLive: “We work closely with the police, schools and community groups across the city to tackle the issue and prevent it from happening."

Don't assume it's just kids doing it. I was once following a family with small children to the chip shop when their parent whipped a spray can out of his pocket and 'tagged' a nearby charity skip!
