Some pubs shut early due to trouble
Police were forced to issue a dispersal order after chaos broke out in Nuneaton town centre. There were reports of a large number of people causing 'serious disruption' in the town centre yesterday afternoon (August 26).
It has been reported that some town centre pubs shut early due to trouble and police were called in to move off a large group of people. As a result a dispersal order was put into place and it remains in place today (August 27). The trouble was reportedly linked to an unauthorised traveller encampment that set-up home in the car park at KFC in Bermuda Park [pictured].
They arrived on Friday and there were a number of reports of trouble at some of the businesses in the area, including the Odeon cinema. Councillor Clare Golby, deputy leader at Nuneaton and Bedworth Borough Council, confirmed that police used their powers to remove the encampment due to the 'serious disruption' caused.
In a post to the community, Cllr Golby said: "As many people are aware, on Friday we had a traveller encampment set up on a privately owned car park in Bermuda. As lots of people will be aware there were also issues in the town centre yesterday afternoon/evening leading to calls to the police for assistance to remove a large number of people who were causing serious disruption.
"This morning the police have confirmed that as a result of the issues being caused a dispersal order was issued and this will remain in place. The police have also invoked their powers to remove the travellers at Bermuda due to the serious disruption caused.
"The group who were on the encamp at Bermuda Park have now left the site having been escorted to the M6 and M1. Police investigations are ongoing and anyone with any information should get in touch."
