Reports of knives and a sawn-off shotgun have emerged following trouble at a Nuneaton Sunday Football League friendly match. CoventryLive reported that the pre-season friendly game between Witherley FC and Collycroft FC had to be abandoned at half time due to a serious incident.

More alleged details have now emerged about the incident in a Nuneaton and District Sunday Football League (NDSFL) email that has been seen by CoventryLive. The email states that the league received reports that knives were pulled out during the match and a sawn-off shot gun was seen at the game, which led to it being called off.

The NDSFL previously confirmed that the game in Witherley had to be abandoned at half time. The NDSFL also said that the Birmingham County FA was in charge of investigating what happened during the match.

CoventryLive has contacted the county FA and a spokesman said: "We are opening an investigation into the football elements surrounding the incident. But we would encourage anyone to call the police if they have not done so."

CoventryLive contacted both Warwickshire Police and Leicestershire Police Forces and neither said that they had received any reports or were investigating an incident on Sunday, July 30 in Witherley.
