Residents claim their lives are being made a living hell by boozing, drug-taking trouble-makers sent to a hotel near their home on the A5. It has been revealed that Nuneaton and Bedworth Borough Council uses the Watling Inn on Watling Street as one of several places to temporarily house those who are at risk of or are homeless.

But residents who live near to the hotel claim that this is causing them misery.

Too scared to reveal their names for fear of retribution, they told CoventryLive that they have to put up with people from the hotel trespassing onto their homes to smoke drugs.

"It has got to the point where we can't open our windows because of the smell of drugs," one said. "Also the noise, from early in the morning to late at night there is shouting, hooraying and swearing. It is just non-stop.

"Lots have moved here for a peaceful retirement but are lives are being made hell. We have caught people trespassing on our properties, smoking drugs."

They say they have called both the council and police countless times not only in recent months, but as far back as last year, about the anti-social behaviour.

"The situation is really serious, we shouldn't have to live like this," said another.

Their fears are further compounded by the fact that a planning application has been submitted to extend the hotel to take another 30 bedrooms.

"Some people are scared, some of them are elderly and they don't want this on their doorstep," another resident said.
