Dramatic images show how a door stopped flames from tearing through a home in Longford. Warwickshire Fire and Rescue Service said that 'luckily' the fire in an airing cupboard did not spread as the owners had kept the door closed.

The fire service shared an image of the door - which shows the damage from the back and also the front. With it, the service has stressed the importance of residents closing doors at night or when they are leaving the house.

The fire broke out at the home in Pumphouse Close on Sunday afternoon and the fire service said: "Crews from Bedworth, Nuneaton and Foleshill attended a house fire today (June 5) which started in an airing cupboard. Luckily the fire was contained to the cupboard because the owners had kept the door closed to stop the fire spread.

"As you can see, doors offer a lot of protection against fires. So please close all doors when leaving the house or when going to bed. In addition, please ensure that clothes, towels or rugs don't cover electrical items. This will reduce the risk of a fire spreading quickly."

Some members of the crews wore breathing apparatus while in the house an used a hose reel, Co2 extinguisher, thermal imaging camera and positive pressure ventilation (PPV).

No-one was injured during the incident yesterday.

I've never seen an airing cupboard door with a lock on it before?
