It will be a life saver for many families this Easter holiday
A cheap Coventry supermarket where you can get a £30 shop for £5 has urged local shoppers to pop in and take a look. Hope Community Project's social supermarket in Hillfields is part of a network of stores in the city.
Social supermarkets are a great way to do your shop in an affordable way. They are not food banks, and run on a membership model, giving you a substantial shop for a fraction of the cost.
Hope Community Project's social supermarket has been open for some time, but has urged struggling families this Easter holiday to pop in and see them. It is based at Hope Community Centre in Hillfields, one of the poorest wards in the city,
The supermarket is open to families who live within a mile within the hub including Hillfields, Stoke and Gosford. However there are 15 social supermarkets in Coventry, offering the same help.
You can become a member of your local social supermarket by going through the free registration process, which involves an initial conversation. You then become a member and pay £4 to £5 a time to fill a shopping bag by choosing from a range of household staples.
Anyone can use a social supermarket, but they aren't foodbanks. If you require a foodbank you can find a full list of those here.
Putting a call out to struggling Coventry families, Hope Community Project wrote on their Facebook page: "Are you struggling to feed your family? Need help? We are offering food support to our local community covering a mile within our hub including Hillfields, Stoke and Gosford. Membership costs just £5 a week and you will receive approximately £30 worth of food.
"You do not need a foodbank voucher to access this service. We provide local people with affordable food and other household items whilst minimising the food wastage."
Throughout the Easter holidays there will be craft sessions on for children, and offers of cakes and a hot drink for £1 or sausage or bacon batches and a hot drink £1.50.
The social supermarket based at Hope Community Project is based at the Ancillary Building, Clifford House, 38-44 Binley Road, CV3 1JA. Call 07956 233098 or visit the Hope Community Project Facebook page.
