Construction work has begun on a new cat intake block after a pet owner dumped three cats outside the branch on March 14
Earlier this month, a pet owner dumped three cats outside an RSPCA branch in Coventry. An unnamed individual asked staff at the branch if they had space to take the cats into their care.
Staff explained that the Coundon Wedge Drive centre was at capacity and advised them of other charities which would be able to take their cats in. However, the cats' owner 'turfed the three cats out of their car and drove off' with one escaping while the other two were caught by staff.
Now RSPCA has provided an update on the cats' welfare. Nimbus (Black) is said to still be 'very nervous' and is receiving ongoing treatment for an issue with his ears. Rosie (Tortie) also has issues with her ears which she is currently receiving treatment for at the branch.
However, they say the third cat 'has still not been captured' and the only details they have is that the cat is black and white. Since the incident, the charity has announced that they are making 'huge changes' to their centre.
Plans include a brand-new cat in-take block which will increase the number of cats the branch can accept. It will also ensure that new cats do not bring diseases into the main cattery.
RSPCA Coventry will also be removing the small animal shed, with the space being utilised for a new socialisation room in which 'dogs can relax with some home comforts.' Not only that, but they will also be creating three new storage spaces to ensure all food and other donated goods are kept clean, dry and organised.
