Coventry fire under investigation after 20 firefighters needed to extinguish flames

The cause of a blaze at at property in Coventry this morning (February 2) is under investigation after 20 firefighters were needed to tackle the flames.

The derelict building on Station Road West, Foleshill, was in flames when West Midlands Fire Service (WMFS) were called around 7.24am.

Crews from all four fire stations in the city attended, with 20 firefighters sent to the scene.

One fire engine from Coventry, Binley, Canley and Foleshill were dispatched along with the Foleshill response unit.

Six firefighters, who were in Breathing Apparatus (BA), used two hose reel jets and one cover jet to put out the blaze before ventilation fans were used to clear the smoke.

The fire investigation team remained at the two-storey public house this afternoon to try to establish the cause of the fire.

A spokesperson for WMFS told CoventryLive: " West Midlands Fire Service were called at 7.24am to reports of a fire at a two-storey derelict public house.

"One engine from Coventry, one from Binley, one from Canley, one from Foleshill and the response unit from Foleshill were sent to the scene. In total, there were 20 firefighters at the scene.

"A total of six firefighters in Breathing Apparatus (BA) used two hose reel jets and one cover jet to put out the blaze. Once the fire was out, they used ventilation fans to get rid of the smoke inside.

"The fire investigation team are there this afternoon to establish the cause of the fire."

WMFS also confirmed on their Twitter account earlier today that all people had been accounted for.

The road, which is a junction with Foleshill Road, was closed but has since reopened.

Fire at Coventry pub was started deliberately, fire service says

A severe fire in Coventry yesterday (February 2) is believed to have been started deliberately.

The derelict building on Station Road West, Foleshill, was in flames and saw over 20 firefighters sent to the scene.

West Midlands Fire Service (WMFS) confirmed the cause of the blaze was under investigation and have this afternoon released their findings.

The fire investigation team remained at the two-storey public house after to establish the cause.

A spokesperson for WMFS has told CoventryLive: "We believe that the fire was started deliberately."
