Residents say a junction at the end of their road is an accident waiting to happen and have called on Coventry council to take action.

Neighbours on Seymour Close claim there have been a number of “bumps” due to problems getting in and out of their street.

The cul-de-sac joins onto the busy London Road but residents turning right into the street or out must cross three lanes of traffic.

One resident Brian Folan said: “If you come from town and try to turn right at the junction there is just nowhere to turn.

“There have been a few bumps there in recent years including myself.

“It can take you five or six minutes sometimes just sat on the London Road trying to turn right into here, it is a nightmare.”

Another, Paul Owen, said: “To turn right into the road you have to slow down and people just don’t seem to realise there’s a road here and start beeping.

“When you want to turn right out you cannot get out either as there’s three lanes you have to pass.”

A 35-name petition has called on Coventry council to install a box junction to help slow down traffic and allow people to drive in and out safely.

Cheylesmore ward Cllr Roger Bailey, who is supporting the call, said: “It is a massive issue and my concern is about the safety of the people trying to exit and make their way into the close, especially with the crazy driving we have seen from some during lockdown and the increase in traffic on the London Road.”
