Armed police descended on the scene in the early hours
Armed police descended on Wood End in the early hours of Friday morning following reports of gunshots fired from a passing car at an open-air party.
A large group of young people were gathered at the Wood End shops overnight from Thursday into Friday when shots were fired from a vehicle.
Police say they attended the scene on Hillmorton Road to find party-goers leaving the scene - luckily no-one has been reported injured.
While investigating, police arrested and charged a teenager who was found nearby with a knife.
CoventryLive were alerted to the incident after reports of several roads being closed in the area, including Hillmorton Road, Lillington Road and several others.
A spokesman for West Midlands Police said: "We're investigating reports of shots being fired during an open-air party in the Wood End area of Coventry in the early hours of this morning (Friday, August 13).
"We understand a large group of young people were gathered on a car park outside shops on Hillmorton Road at around 1am when shots were fired from a vehicle.
"Armed officers arrived to find the crowd dispersing and despite extensive searches, no one reported any injuries to us.
"As part of our on-going enquiries, this afternoon a number of roads around the scene were closed off for forensic examination, but the cordons were lifted by about 4pm.
"During searches of the area last night a 19-year-old was arrested on suspicion of possessing a knife. He was later charged and is due to appear at Coventry Magistrates Court next month.
"Our neighbourhood teams will be stepping up patrols in the area over the coming days, so if you have any concerns please have a chat with them."
