Residents have called for action to stop dangerous drivers speeding on a set of Coventry roads dubbed the ‘triangle of death’.

A total of 49 people have signed a petition urging Coventry City Council to take action on Binley Avenue, Grange Avenue and Willenhall Lane.

Ward councillor Christine Thomas said motorists have turned “quiet residential roads” into a “virtual triangle of death”.

Cllr Thomas, who presented the petition at full council this month, said: “Irresponsible drivers have created a virtual triangle of death in this area.

“They speed down Binley Avenue, speed along Willenhall Lane and speed up Grange Avenue. It is happening on a regular basis.

“It is not just the onus of high-powered sports cars who seem to be using it as a test track to go from nought to 60, but it is other drivers as well.

“The residents are requesting this is put through the relevant cabinet member so the area can be looked at with a view to traffic calming measures to be installed.”

Cllr Thomas has said one idea to solve the problem could be making Grange Avenue and Binley Avenue a 20mph zone.

The request for action will be dealt with by cabinet member for city services Cllr Pat Hetherton at a later date.
