A new care home with a rooftop garden for its residents is planned in Coventry.

Plans have been submitted to Coventry City Council to demolish the existing buildings on 3-5 Minster Road to erect a new 27-bed care home spanning across two blocks.

The site, on the corner of Holyhead Road, currently contains a Londis store, a takeaway restaurant and a car wash.

New plans envisage a three-storey care home comprising of eight bedrooms on the ground floor, 10 on the first floor, and nine on the second floor – all en-suite.

The care home would also include a kitchen, amenity area, two dining rooms, two lounges, a staff room, office, as well as a laundry room.

A rooftop garden for residents would also be provided looking onto Minster Road.

In planning submissions via their agent, applicant Sales Majestic Foods Ltd said the rooftop element mirrors ‘similar successful rooftop garden areas’ in the city.

No car parking provision has been planned.

A decision is expected to be made by Coventry council planners in June.

The takeaway closed a long time ago unfortunately, at one time it was the best chip shop in town. The off-licence was also a busy post office until a few years ago, many locals still depend heavily on it.

There's an excess of residential homes in that area already, it's fast becoming a ghetto.
