Two people have been arrested in connection with a spate of muggings in which school children were targeted in Coventry.

On Wednesday (24 March) at least four separate incidents saw school kids mugged of their phones as they walked to or from school.

All of the incidents happened in a similar area, with at least two pupils from Stoke Park Secondary School mugged - one just before school and one just after.

Police have now revealed they have arrested two people in connection with the incidents.

A West Midlands Police spokesman said: "A 42-year-old man was arrested on Friday on suspicion of robbery and released under investigation and a 17-year-old boy was arrested this morning (Sunday, March 28) and remains in custody.

"These arrests are in connection with the spate of robberies."

Regarding the spate of muggings, police previously told CoventryLive on Friday evening: "Several students were targeted by mobile phone thieves as they made their way to school in the Walsgrave area of Coventry on Wednesday morning (24 March).

"We’re investigating various incidents that took place before 9.30am on Dane Road, Blackberry Lane and Belgrave Road.

"At present we believe that the same group of offenders are responsible for all of the reported incidents and our investigation is well underway."
