Huge prayer monument gets planning green light in Warwickshire

A huge prayer monument standing twice the height of the Angel of the North has been given the green light in Warwickshire.

Permission has been given for construction of the Eternal Wall of Answered Prayer, which, once completed, will stand at an impressive 169ft in height.

It is set to be built on a plot of land near to Coleshill, in the north of the county.

And, according to those behind the project, it is expected to attract 300,000 visitors a year, contributing £9.3 million to the Warwickshire economy.

According to plans, the arch structure of the wall will be constructed using a million bricks, with each one representing an individual prayer that has been answered for people across the UK.

Interactive technology is set to be used, allowing visitors to scan each brick, and read the personal answer prayer story attached to each one.

North Warwickshire Borough Council has granted planning permission, and the decision has been ratified by the Secretary of State.

During construction, it is thought that the project will create 60 new jobs during its two year construction phase - starting in 2021.

Once completed, it is understood that 20 full-time positions will be created in the visitor centre, cafe, book shop, and a 24-hour chaplaincy service.

It is also estimated that the monument will generate an additional gross social value of £1.4 billion, including £430 million in charitable donations.

The project is being operated by a number of individuals from Coventry, with CEO of the project Richard Gamble a former resident of Tile Hill. More recently he was the chaplain for Leicester City Football Club.

Another prominent figure involved in the project is Dave Silber. The Eastern Green resident previously founded the Nexus Institute of Creative Arts in Earlsdon.

The Right Reverend Dr Christopher Cocksworth, Bishop of Coventry said: “‘Eternal Wall’ will stand as a wonderful, visible symbol of the magnitude and power of prayer. What’s most exciting about this project is the way it shows how, as each brick lies upon another, our prayers are not in isolation.

"Each of our prayers keys us more truly into Jesus and one another. Eternal Wall will be a sign that through our prayers, God’s will is being done on earth as in heaven, and that the Kingdom of God is coming.”
