Nuneaton litter lout 'Tossers' not listening to council's plea

They say the message is not hitting home



Signs appealing to people not to be 'tossers' will be appearing across Nuneaton and Bedworth.

It is the latest tactic being used by Nuneaton and Bedworth Borough Council in a bid to put a stop to litter problems.

Town Hall bosses say that previous appeals about littering and pleads to people to take rubbish home with them have fallen on deaf ears.

Now, as the summer holidays have started and even more people are expected to hit parks and play areas, the council is keen for the problem not to increase any more.

So they have joined the Warwickshire County Council 'Dont' be a Tosser' campaign which includes putting new signs up around the two towns.

Councillor Ian Lloyd, cabinet member for arts and leisure at the Town Hall, said: “This campaign is not new and other borough/district councils are already using this wording. We need residents to think twice when leaving their rubbish/bottles/picnics/BBQ left overs in our green spaces and this wording hopefully will make them think about that.

"After you have had a good time in our parks, please pick up your litter and take it home if our bins are full, that means the next people using the park can enjoy it just like the first.”

The Town Hall threatened it may have to close parks due to the sheer amount of litter being left.

Extra cleaning sessions have been brought in to stop bins from overflowing but the council has stressed that, if there is no space, people should take their litter home with them.

I dread to think what their homes look like. I think take a ways dont help .

When foot ball was on at the Richo the tow path and canal also the nature reserve was full of litter also grafftee on canal art since there has been no foot ball it stays a lot cleaner .

I first noticed littering in the early 70 on the main road by the General Wolf and some side streets where even to this day black bags of rubbish are shoved under hedges there. Considering its a main route into the city I hate to think what visitors think.
When I was young our streets were cleaner than today as we always took our rubbish home with us also there was less packaging.

This was also on Country File about rubbish left in the country side and having bar b ques not putting them out and causing big fires across the country one even burned an acient tree.
