The death of a dog in a Coventry park is being investigated by the RSPCA.

The animal charity says the incident involved a brindle Staffordshire bull terrier and a Lassie-type Rough Collie.

It happened between 12.50pm and 1.15pm on Wednesday, March 6, in Longford Park, not far from the entrance behind Oak View Road and Hurst Road.

The RSPCA said details about what happened were sketchy, but it resulted in the death of the Staffie at the scene.

RSPCA inspector Nicola Johnson said: “At this stage it is not clear what actually happened in the park so I am appealing for any witnesses or anyone with any information which will help me build a clearer picture to get in touch.

“The incident happened as both dogs were being walked by their owners at the location.

“The park is a popular area with walkers so I am hoping someone may have seen something which can help my investigation.”

The RSPCA said it was unable to release any further details "as it may hinder our investigation".

Anyone with information about the incident should call the RSPCA appeals line on 0300 123 8018.
