Arsonists have trashed Bedworth’s treasured skate park.

They struck at the Coventry Road-based skate park sometime at the weekend leaving passers-by to find the destruction.

Nuneaton and Bedworth Borough Council is now counting the costs of the arson attack which has left part of it being unable to use.

Councillor Ian Lloyd, cabinet member for arts, leisure and economic development at the Town Hall, said they are working with the police to try and find those responsible.

“There has been an incident of vandalism at Bedworth Skate Park, with some damage caused by fire," he explained.

"Our contractor attended this morning to remove the rubbish and to begin to assess the damage."

He went on: “It is extremely frustrating that this criminal behaviour has led to the temporary loss of a much valued facility for the local community.

"We are giving every assistance to the police, who are investigating this matter.”

Anyone with any information about who is responsible for the damage should call Warwickshire Police on 101.

Details can also be passed on to officers via the independent charity Crimestoppers, which is free to call from a landline and confidential, on 0800 555 111.
